About Us
Wapapura Sustainable Sounds is a project that was born in the Jungles and Mountains of South America many years ago.
It is an idea that initially began with the objective of wanting to simply record music in stunning and inspirational natural environments. But through years of widespread travel, the idea grew out of seeing the terrible ecological and cultural devastation that is taking place all around our planet.
Along the way one finds people and projects that are out there fighting to save precious natural environments and cultural traditions connected with the Earth that are on the verge of disappearing.
Wapapura was born out of a desire to use the amazing power of music to help support these projects. Projects that are helping keep a fragile balance with the Earth that we all need as inhabitants of this Planet, our home. The only home we have.
With the several projects that make up Wapapura Sustainable Sounds the intention is to release recordings that have been made using renewable energy sources and printed on recycled materials. All of the benefits of the purchase of these recordings will go as donations to specific environmental or cultural survival projects. Therefore, when you pay for the download of the music available on this site you know that all of your money is going directly to the project itself and not passing through our hands first.
Examples of types projects that will benefit from these recordings will be reforestation, recuperation of traditional farmlands and ancient farming techniques, watershed conservation and recuperation, environmental education, solar powered community radio stations in rural areas to support fading indigenous cultures, etc.
Throughout the years the project has developed to its present state and is now finally being realized by a small group based mostly out of Granada, Spain.
The group is made up of:
Rafael Kotcherha Campora - Projects Director and Wapapura Creator
Ivan Moreno - Sound Recording and Post Production
Jorge Mimbres - Solar Power Technician
Maia Bryceson -- Photography
It has been a long process of dreaming this project into reality. Due to loads of hard work and many miraculous fateful happenings and meetings the time has come for us to be walking in the dream instead of just dream walking.
