About Us
Wapapura Sustainable Sounds is a project that was born in the Jungles and Mountains of South America many years ago.
It is an idea that initially began with the objective of wanting to simply record music in stunning and inspirational natural environments. But through years of widespread travel, the idea grew. It evolved out of seeing the terrible ecological and cultural devastation that is taking place all around our planet.
Along the way one finds people and projects that are out there fighting to save precious natural environments and cultural traditions connected with the Earth that are on the verge of disappearing.
Wapapura was born out of a desire to use the amazing power of music to help support these projects. Projects that are helping keep a fragile balance with the Earth that we all need as inhabitants of this Planet, our home. The only home we have.
The recording sessions themselves have just as much to do about space as they do the music. We provide musicians the opportunity to record with state of the art recording equipment, but instead of inside a studio, they are playing in either stunning natural environments or culturally significant locations with amazing acoustics. What we are trying to create is a relationship, a momentary communication between the music and the space. A communication with space that is lacking these days not only in music, but also with humans and the natural planet we live on and share.
To have the least amount of impact on the environments where we record, we power our equipment with renewable energy sources, usually solar power. It is our intention to leave only footprints and echoes.
To also have the least amount of impact in the distribution of the music, we will make it available as a download or if a CD is created, it will be printed in the most ecologically sound way possible at this time (recycled materials, soy inks...)
The benefits of the purchase of these recordings will go directly as donations to specific environmental or cultural survival projects with whom we have partnered with.
Throughout the years the project has developed to its present state and is now finally being realized by a small group based mostly out of Granada, Spain.
The group is made up of:
Rafael Kotcherha Campora - Projects Director and Wapapura Creator
Ivan Moreno - Sound Recording and Post Production
Jorge Mimbres - Solar Power Technician
Maia Bryceson -- Photography
It has been a long process of dreaming this project into reality. Due to loads of hard work and many miraculous fateful happenings and meetings the time has come for us to be walking in the dream instead of just dream walking.
