WAPAPURA música para la tierra

Rob Mazurek & Dan Ben Lior at the river, Sierra de Quentar

Date: 13-08-2009

Place: Sierra de Quentar

The elements finally came in to place to have our first Ayamtae session.  A recording session where we bring musicians together in a stunning natural environment and allow them to just play to the space.

The place was a hidden river valley near the village of Quentar in the mountains outside Granada.  I had been wanting to do a recording here since the first time I found it by chance many years ago.  And that moment finally arose when Rob was back in town after playing with Exploding Star Orchestra and Marcelo Camelo in Lisbon.

This was the also the first meeting between cornetist Rob Mazurek and the local guitarist Dan Ben Lior.  The track you are listening to is the first creation of this first meeting.  Two musicians just getting to know one another with their instruments.  There was much more that materialized from this day.  This track and these pictures are just a small sample of a wonderful day of good air, good music, good food and good people.  And it all ended in a powerful thunderstorm when we were back comfortably on the terrace of the 8 in Granada.

Many more of these sessions are to come.  Simple musical offerings where we leave nothing but footsteps and Echoes.
